Witte de With is pleased to present two upcoming acts in the Morality program: Act VIII: Nether Land, a group exhibition held in Shanghai and Act IX: Let Us Compare Mythologies, a three-day performance cycle in Rotterdam. ACT VIII: Nether Land Exhibition 20 June – 11 July 2010 Dutch Culture Centre, 800 Changde Lu, Jing’an District, Shanghai Open: Tuesday to Sunday, from 11:00 to 19:00 Saturday 19 June: 14:30 Public roundtable discussion with selected artists, moderated by the curators. 16:00 Opening Cocktail Reception. Every Saturday & Sunday 20 June – 11 July: 15:00 Dance performance choreographed by nunu kong for Jennifer Tee’s new installation Star-Crossed. Act VIII: Nether Land is an act of Morality conceived specifically for the “world stage” of the World Expo 2010 and takes place at the Dutch Cultural Center in Shanghai. Nether Land invites reflection on the paradox of cross-cultural perception. Each exhibited work projects a different relationship with a faraway land, be this Asia, Africa, Europe or the Middle East, making it impossible for a stable portrait of any one country or culture to emerge. These staged contributions will examine a wide variety of topics such as the intrinsic relationship between man and (art)object, the animal as a tool for social criticism and the creative power of fiction.
