Dismantling the Archive: Representation, Identity, Memory in an Ottoman Family
January 21–March 23, 2014
Encompassing three generations, from the late Ottoman to the Republican era, the family archive of Said Bey incites a historiographical study on the daily and familial life of the early 20th century. Dismantling the Archive attempts to understand how an unexceptional family, as it passed through a complicated process of transition, expressed and represented itself through writing, photography, and material culture to form and preserve memories.
