General
History
The Centre de la Photographie (CPG) was founded in 1984 by a group of Genevan photographers. In 2007, the CPG took up residence alongside Mamco (museum of modern and contemporary art) and the CAC (center of contemporary art) in the old ironworks building that these two institutions have occupied since 1994.
Programming
The CPG’s program focuses on monographic exhibitions. Since 2001, the CPG has worked on numerous types of productions, distributions and presentations of contemporary photography. Its main strengths are exhibitions of photographic projects considering documentary and visual culture.
In addition to its regular exhibition programme, 2001 saw the CPG organise its first, 50 days for photography (50 JPG), a triennial exhibition held in Geneva, in collaboration with the majority of Geneva’s museums, galleries, alternative spaces and various other art centers. In 2010, 50 days for photography took the form of a large thematic exhibition.
CPG organizes approximately 6–7 exhibitions each year.
Most outstanding projects in recent years:
Laurence Bonvin, 2008; Gerhard Richter, 2009; Yto Barrada, 2010; Serge Fruhehauf, 2010.
Publishing
The CPG publishes two or three publications and catalogues each year, as well as posters, limited editions and artists books.
Spaces
The CPG has two exhibition showrooms, the spaces of which can be altered between 100 m2 to 700 m2, depending of the projects.
