Malta Contemporary Art Foundation is a non-profit cultural artist-run organization, founded in October 2008 as a platform for the exhibition, research and discussion of contemporary art in Malta. In 2010, MCA moved to its temporary premises housed in a 16th century fort in the centre of the capital Valletta.

Malta Contemporary Art Foundation aims to create a unique, diverse and exciting programme of emerging international artists, while also contributing to the development of an infrastructure for contemporary art in Malta.

MCA works to create serious dialogue in the cultural field through exhibitions, experimentation, discussion and collaboration. Future projects to expand these aims include the development of MCA’s public art programme, an online art journal, a residency programme, and an artist film archive and production service.

MCA presents approximately 10 exhibitions each year.

MCA hosts a programme of film screenings, artist talks and symposia and other events in conjunction with exhibitions. Through this programme it also aims to approach the community through innovative and socially engaging projects that make use of public space. Future developments will involve developing an educational programme comprised of workshops and similar events for a younger public.
