History

Year opened to the public: 2004

Brief history: The project room White Space, was founded in 2004, as a non-profit organization by Mia Holz and Urs KŸenzi and is currently headed by Dorothee Richter and Siri Peyer. White Space organizes projects in the fields of contemporary curating, art and theory. These different interweaving and overlapping fields of curating, art and theory, comment, create and motivate each another.

Programming

Aims and objectives: The project room White Space is a platform for experimental formats, new forms of re-productions, as well as a place for the production of knowledge. This platform supports art projects, archives, actions in the public sphere, and/or interventions of any kind.

Distinct areas of
programming:
The practice of making exhibitions is questioned and combined with relevant social and political themes. White Space acts on the assumption that the politics of the visible are reflected in everyday culture and media. These processes can be executed in art and in exhibitions, as well as through new visual and theoretical proposals.

White Space understands the cultures of everyday life as an ensemble of processes (educational and social) existing in the social space of society. Ideally, cultural analysis is understood as a theory of practice and as a practice of theory. Representation that reaches into urban and architectonical practices, media and design affect the formation of space and identity. White Space becomes a place of questioning visual culture und aesthetics, taking a position concerning visibility and the possibilities of access.
