‘Zenomap’ was a project organized by the Scottish Arts Council and the British Council, supported by the Scottish Executive as part of Scotland’s participation in the 50th Venice Biennale. The project takes its title from the names of two 14th-century Venetian brothers who traveled the North Sea and Nova Scotia. The exhibition aimed at tracing the historical connections between Scotland and Venice. Curated by Kay Pallister and Francis McKee, the show was held at the Palazzo Giustinian-Lolin on the Grand Canal and featured specially-commissioned work from three Scottish-based artists with strong international reputations: Claire Barclay, Jim Lambie, and Simon Starling.
