The New York City-based GAle GAtes et al. operated internationally from 1995 to 2003 under the direction of artist Michael Counts. Their post-Happening, spectacular, site-specific work can be credited as the predecessor to immersive theater. They are known best for their works, Field of Mars, Tilly Losch, 1839, and So Long Ago I Can’t Remember.
