electronic flux corporation

e-flux (Electronic Flux Corporation) is a New York-based artist-run company dedicated to worldwide distribution of information for contemporary visual arts institutions via the Internet. Established in 1998, e-flux has built a readership of more than 33,000 international visual arts professionals and a client base of some of the most vital contemporary art galleries, museums and publications.

In January 2000, we initiated a program of participatory online projects on our site: www.e-flux.com. Our first project, currently accessible through the e-flux Projects page, is an online book by New York-based artist Rob Pruitt, 101 Art Ideas You Can Do Yourself, presented in cooperation with Gavin Brown's Enterprise. In conjunction with the book, e-flux also produced a limited edition print by Pruitt: Love Letter, distributed as an insert in Parkett #60.

In May 2000 we presented 100% FREE - from Mejor Vida Corp, a project by a Mexico City-based Minerva Cuevas, in cooperation with kurimanzutto gallery. 100% FREE offered visitors a free MVC Student ID Card. The online application process was easy. The ID cards were issued and mailed from Mejor Vida Corp. office located on the 14th floor of the tallest skyscraper in Mexico City, La Torre Latinoamericana. The MVC Student ID Card can be used internationally to obtain free or reduced museum admissions, discounts on airfare, ground transportation, travel accommodations, as well as numerous other benefits. Through its duration at e-flux more than 500 such cards have been issues and sent to numerous individuals worldwide.

Our current project Do It (home version), curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, is an exhibition of artist's instructions to be executed by the audience. Do It at e-flux is also an online compendium of artists' writings; a 'webzine' containing fascinating essays on the peculiar subject of artworks in the form of instructions and experimental exhibitions, as well as an informal community for people interested in such subjects. Starting with a first installment of works by over 60 artists, many new instructions, essays and interviews, as well as audience participation and feedback will be added to the site.
