Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA): TIME-BASED ART FESTIVAL Sept. 9-18, 2005 Innovative, provocative and enviable Real Time Arts Now in its third year, the Time-Based Art (TBA) Festival continues to push buttons, boundaries and limits. Join us Sept. 9-18 as we introduce work of global consequence by bold contemporary artists. Over the course of 10 days, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art presents moving bodies, images and sound on the stages and streets of Portland, Oregon. Performances, salons and workshops inhabit a dozen venues. Late-night music and parties take place in a suite of converted warehouses. Roving projects land in unlikely places, from the sidewalks to the bridges of Portland's urban core. TBA:05 includes performances by: STREB, Wally Cardona Quartet (world premiere), Antony and the Johnsons, Tracey and the Plastics, Lone Twin, Guy Dartnell, Kota Yamazaki/Fluid Hug Hug, Ivana Müller, Faustin Linyekula, DJ Spooky and many more. Pacific Northwest College of Art: Troca Brasil Sept. 1 Oct. 22, 2005 Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) Feldman Gallery Project Space presents Troca Brasil, an exhibition and cultural exchange with A Gentil Carioca of Rio de Janeiro. Internationally renowned artist Ernesto Neto, and four other artists from the Brazilian gallery Laura Lima, Marcio Botner, Thiago Rocha Pitta and Marssares exhibit and lecture at PNCA. AFFAIR @ the Jupiter Hotel Sept. 30 Oct. 2, 2005 Organized by Stuart Horodner This intimately scaled art fair brings together emerging artists from the United States and beyond. Approximately 40 participating dealers and guest curators will set up temporary exhibitions in rooms at the trend-setting Jupiter Hotel in Portland; there will be art on the beds, on the walls, in closets and in bathrooms. Collectors and arts professionals take part in lively discussions, impromptu parties and local tours. The Portland Art Museum: Center for Modern and Contemporary Art GRAND OPENING Oct. 2, 2005 Celebrate Cezanne, Monet, Lichtenstein and more at the opening of the new 28,000-square-foot Center for Modern and Contemporary Art (CMCA) at the Portland Art Museum. Housing a broad spectrum of media in a survey of modern art, including the Museum's Clement Greenberg Collection of Mid-20th Century art, the CMCA will also present the only museum galleries north of San Francisco and west of Chicago dedicated solely to photography. Compagnie Marie Chouinard: bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG _variations Oct. 13-15, 2005 Lincoln Hall, Portland State University The White Bird/PSU Dance Series presents the North American premiere of the newest work by one of Montreals most innovative dance companies, set to a score inspired by Bachs Goldberg Variations. Marie Chouinards 10 remarkable dancers will use different devices, such as crutches, rope and bars, in a dynamic succession of solos, duets and ensemble sections that will plumb the insoluble mystery of the living being. |
