FLEMISH ARTS CENTRE DE BRAKKE GROND
Sophie Nys exposes herself in disarming, impulsive and personal videos, posters and graphic experiments. Her exhibition INTERVIEW WITH A BUILDING II shows the paradoxical dilemma between her transparant black and white language and the semi-melodrama in her oeuvre. Sophie Nys is a young artist from Flanders (Belgium), who uses a clear graphic design. Humor and (self)-mockery are always to be found in her works of art. In doing so, she doesnt avoid the debate around the contemporary art scene. In a flirtatious way, she is making fun of the seriousness of curators who are looking down on the genre poster design. My works of art are not unique pieces; many copies can be printed and distributed, she says. Testimony of that: Bring me to the curador (referring to Garland Jeffreys song Take me to the matador) or A poster a day keeps the curator away. Within the framework of Sophie Nys exhibition, de Brakke Grond will organize the Air Guitar Race of the Low Countries, Friday, 11 November, 2005 at 21h00: For the first time ever, three Dutch Air Guitar players (among whom world champion The Destroyer) and three Flemish will compete to win the already so desirable Golden Plectrum. This evening event will be presented by Rick de Leeuw. For tickets, call 31 (0)20 626 68 66 or book online at http://www.indenes.nl. Opening hours of the exhibition: Monday: between 1pm and 6pm Tuesday through Friday between 10am and 8.30pm Satuday: between 1pm and 8.30pm Sunday: between 1pm and 5pm Free admission |
