Bonniers Konsthall
Daria Martin sneak launches Bonniers Konsthall, April 26 Daria Martin has been invited to show and introduce her films Soft Materials and Wintergarden at the Sture movie theatre in Stockholm. This will be the first time Daria Martins films are shown in Sweden. Her films can be described as total artworks where music, clothes, set design, and dance work together to form a whole. Martin makes use of and reinterprets the ideals and expressions of performance arts. Her characteristic theatrical aesthetics combine simple materials, hand-made clothing, jewellery, and props bearing references to Giacomettis sculptures, modernist architecture, and Oscar Schlemmers dance and theatre costumes. Daria Martin was born in San Francisco in 1973, and lives and works in London. Soft Materials 2004, 10 min. The film creates a new image of the boundary between man and machine. As in Martins earlier works there are clear connections both to early modernism as well as the performance art of the sixties. The film was produced at the Artificial Intelligence Lab at the University of Zürich. In a dance-like performance, two robots interact with two performance artists. Wintergarden 2005, 13 min. The De La Warr pavilion, a modernist building on the English coast, is the location for Daria Martins latest film.
