One of the preeminent interpreters of contemporary life today, Adam Gopnik has been writing for The New Yorker for more than twenty years. He has served as the magazine's art critic and its Paris correspondent and now writes, among other things, its New York Journal. His first book, Paris to the Moon, a collection of essays about his five years in France, became a national bestseller, spending more than twenty-four weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, and has been called the finest book on France in recent years. Gopnik is also the author of The King in the Window, an adventure story, and of the forthcoming Through the Children's Gate, a collection of essays about the past five years in New York. He is the recipient of the George Polk Award for magazine reporting and on three occasions has received the National Magazine Award for Essays and for Criticism. Born in Philadelphia, Gopnik grew up in Montreal. He received a BA from McGill University and an MA from the Institute of Fine Arts. ArtTalks is presented by Target.
