Two Modern Masters. One Historic Exhibition.

Matisse Picasso is coming to MoMA QNS, The Museum of Modern Art's
temporary home in Queens, from February 13 to May 19, 2003. MoMA
anticipates a sold-out exhibition, so call early to guarantee your
preferred time. The only American presentation of this historic
exhibition
explores the lifelong dialogue between two of the greatest figures in
twentieth-century art. Beginning in 1906 and spanning five decades,
Matisse Picasso tells the compelling story of two very different
personalities who nonetheless remained closer in spirit than any other
two
artists of their time. Recognizing each other's genius from the start,
they drew on their rivalry and friendship to reach ever-higher levels of
accomplishment.
Extraordinary in its scope and ambition, Matisse Picasso is the result
of
an unprecedented collaboration between The Museum of Modern Art, New
York;
Tate, London; Musée Picasso and Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre
Georges Pompidou, Paris. The exhibition gathers masterpieces from major
international public and private collections that rarely travel.
Confirming the artists' status as giants of their time, it brings alive
the complex personal and artistic relationship that defined the standard
for painting in the twentieth century.
