TATE
magazine
The second issue of the new TATE magazine is on sale
from Thursday 7th November 2002
From the Editors Note:
For the best part of a century, we have been used to reading about
the
artistry of feature-film directors, from Abel Gance to Andrei Tarkovsky
or
even Hollywood film directors who sometimes strike the flint of genius,
such as Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick or David Lynch. Where do
artists fit into all of this? In this second issue of the new TATE
magazine, Mark Nash explains why artists films owe much to the
history of
the moving image, yet cannot be viewed in the same way as narrative
cinema
or television. Possibly the most admired artist today making
feature-length films is the American Matthew Barney, who has created
this
issues Artist Project, including new drawings describing the
trajectory
of his ten-year Cremaster film cycle. Robert Violette
