Art Gallery of York University


The Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) presents exhibitions of a contemporary nature, often experimental and probing in scope, complementary to York's progressive atmosphere. Through an internationally recognized exhibition program of innovative and challenging art by professional artists from Canada and abroad, the AGYU aims to bring important art to Canada, and to reflect and define the cutting edge of contemporary Canadian and international art. Located on York University's north Toronto campus, the AGYU also partners with the Faculty of Fine Arts to provide a unique teaching laboratory for York students. Reporting to the University's Vice-President Academic, and in consultation with the AGYU Advisory Board, the Director/Curator holds administrative responsibility for the AGYU, and curatorial responsibility for the Gallery as well as for art installations across the University.

In addition to a Master's degree in Art History and/or Museology (or equivalent), the successful candidate will, ideally, have practical art school training. He or she will be a dedicated professional with substantial experience and success in curatorial work and management within a public museum or art gallery. The new Director/Curator must also possess strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, an inspiring and effective leadership style, and expertise in creating and implementing policies that will lead this unique institution into the next chapter of its history.
