The Pan American Art Gallery presents “Cuban Photography – Revolutionary to Contemporary” from March 29th – May 17th with an opening reception on March 28th from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. This extraordinary collection of photographs features the early work of Joaquin Blez; works from the beginning of the Cuban revolution by Osvaldo Salas, Raul Corrales and Roberto Salas; contemporary works by René Peña, José Manuel Fors, Marta Maria Perez Bravo, Juan Carlos Alom, Cirenaica Moreira, Eduardo Hernandez and Julian Martí.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Our exhibit begins with the work of Joaquin Blez in the 1920’s covering the art-nouveau period in Cuba. We then feature the work of the photographers of the Cuban Revolution, known as “Cuban Epic Photography”, a period that transformed the purpose and role of photography, stepping away from traditional photojournalism by reflecting the feeling and sentiments of the period. Moving into the contemporary realm, we feature a breadth of work from the mid nineties to the present; the contemporary works showcase a variety of techniques (from collages to reverse negatives) and an equally diverse subject matter, from self portraiture to the manipulation and combination of images to tell an intricate story.

The Pan American Art Gallery is located in the Turtle Creek Neighborhood of Dallas at 3303 Lee Parkway, Suite 101. The Gallery is open Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. -6 p.m. and Saturday noon - 6 p.m. Call 214-522-3303 for more information or visit http://www.panamericanart.com.

Specializing in art from the Caribbean basin, the Pan American Art Gallery features avant-garde and contemporary Cuban works, as well as contemporary and folk art from Haiti and Jamaica.
