The London Consortium - comprised of the Architectural Association,
University of London, Institute of Contemporary Arts and Tate - is
joining forces with Tate Modern to present a summer school for 2002. A
programme spanning three weeks will offer participants from home and
abroad the opportunity to explore cutting edge contemporary culture in
London, as well as providing a taster of the Consortium's programme and
faculty research. Participants will attend classes featuring leading
figures from the disciplines of art, architecture, film, history,
literature and fashion. These will be complemented by site visits to key
cultural institutions and landmarks in London, as well as evening
events, exhibition openings and film screenings.
Guest speakers: Peter Ackroyd, Marina Warner, Isaac Julien, Harland
Miller, Mark Gisbourne, James Putnam, Hadrian Pigott, and Andrew
Jefferson-Miles. Faculty from the Consortium: Colin MacCabe, Mark
Cousins, Barbara Penner, Katie Kitamura, and Chris Turner.
Imaging Contemporary London offers participants a chance to learn about
contemporary art, architecture, literature and fashion in London.
Artists, curators, writers and designers will give presentations to
participants. From commercial galleries to alternative spaces, artists'
studios, auction houses and fashion ateliers, participants will have a
privileged view of what is happening at the moment in the city.
Down and Dirty in London explores all things dirty and forbidden in the
metropolis, uncovering the subterranean city. Transport, infrastructure,
waste management, hygiene, burial rituals and the occult will all be
surveyed. The course will present an fresh take on London and its hidden
histories. Site visits may include London cemeteries and the Cabinet War
Rooms.
Information London: Behind Closed Doors is an opportunity to get behind
the scenes at some of the leading institutions of the city. What is kept
behind locked doors? Participants will learn how to access not only
information, but places, objects and people. Site visits may include the
British Museum, Imperial War Museum, National Sound Archive, and Tate
storage facilities.

Welcome reception and farewell dinner
Lectures held at Tate Modern, London Transport Travelcard provided for
