CentraleSupélec is accepting applications to direct a major artistic project for its campus in Paris –Saclay for the opening of the new buildings designed by OMA (Rem Koolhaas and Ellen van Loon) and Gigon/Guyer in September 2017.
As part of the “artistic 1%” an international call for applications has been launched to choose the artist or artist group whose work will be part of the experience for the future visitors to the site and the affirmation CentraleSupélec’s identity.
Consequently, it will likely be placed in the “Diagonal,” a large hallway open to the public that stretches the entire length of the building. This central location, at the heart of the OMA’s building, is particularly advantageous to present the desire both to welcome visitors and to showcase the university’s identity: a central space, at the heart of the building. This space is bustling every day with restaurant, relaxation and work areas, but is also transformed for events. The project naturally opens the door to various types of art: suspensions, projections on prominent walls, terraces, etc.
The work will be positioned inside, high up and in a changing setting, with natural light. The artist (or group of artists) must therefore take into consideration all constraints inherent in this type of setting (including temperature constraints) and ensure that materials to be used to create or maintain the work will not engender complex or costly maintenance. The work must be resistant over time.
The total budget for the project is 900,000 EUR, all costs included.
Applications must reach CentraleSupélec no later than November 8, 2016 at 12pm; details can be downloaded with this link. A document presenting the context is available for candidates to download, to gain a sound understanding of the architectural project and its specificities.
