The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) seeks exceptional artists for full-time, tenured or tenure-track positions in the Department of Painting and Drawing to join the ranks of its renowned faculty. The candidate of choice will join a faculty of 18 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty and 60 part-time faculty who offer over 200 undergraduate courses each year, and work individually with 50 graduate students in the department as well as graduate students from across SAIC. The ideal candidate has an active professional practice, with experience and commitment to teaching at the college-level. Rank and salary are competitive with peer institutions, and are commensurate with quality of scholarship or practice, extent of teaching experience, and current professional standing.

Faculty are responsible for developing and teaching undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, and working individually with graduate students in the tutorial fashion for which SAIC’s graduate programs are known. Faculty are expected to maintain active professional practices, contribute to the vibrant and creative culture of a prestigious art school, and participate in departmental and school-wide committees and service to the institution. There is an expectation that all full-time tenured faculty will chair their department on a rotating basis as well.
