This month, Parsons The New School for Design presents its first art and design festival, with nearly 200 public events taking place across its campus and around the city. Held from May 7–23, 2011, the Parsons Festival will culminate in a daylong community block party (May 21) featuring a printmaking jam, interactive fashion photo booths, and musical performances.
“We are opening our doors to the public to showcase the talent found here at Parsons, but also to celebrate the future of art and design,” said Joel Towers, executive dean of Parsons The New School for Design. ”The Parsons Festival will comprise a number of exhibitions and installations featuring cutting-edge and critically engaged work in a wide range of disciplines.”
Reflecting the creative spirit that is a hallmark of Parsons and The New School, the Parsons Festival will feature exhibitions of work by students from across Parsons’ five schools: Art and Design History and Theory; Art, Media and Technology; Constructed Environments; Design Strategies; and Fashion.
The festival will also feature a mix of screenings, thought-provoking public programs, interactive installations, and symposia. See the Parsons Festival website for a full calendar of events.
