Discover Architecture

Discover Architecture gives current college students and graduates who are interested in a career in architecture an intensive introduction to the field. Throughout this two-week program, students will learn about topics such as drawing, digital representation, architectural analysis, sustainable design, and design theory from experienced architecture professionals. Students will also be introduced to computer programs used by architects (Rhino, Maya, MasterCam) and work on a sequence of design exercises, culminating in the development of a small-scale architectural project. The program allows students to create work for their portfolios and prepares them to apply to professional degree programs.
Portfolio Plus
June 28-July 30
Application deadline: April 1
Portfolio Plus is a five-week introduction to the study and practice of making art, open to students from across the country who are 16 or older and have completed their sophomore year in high school. Students have the opportunity to build and document their portfolios while studying and making art in a real studio. Upon successful completion, they will receive 6 college credits. Classes include Drawing, 2D/3D Design, Figure Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Digital Photography, and Fashion Design.
Summer Courses
May 21-July 30
Our summer courses are open to current Washington University students, students from other colleges/universities, and adults seeking career advancement or creative enrichment. Courses in art include The Graphic Novel, Alternative Process Photography, Documentary Photography, Figure Drawing, Sculpture, Digital Photography, Fashion Design, and Painting. Courses in architecture include Designing Sustainable Environments, Mapping Soft Bodies/Constructing Complex Objects, Structures I, and Structures II.
