The School of Photography offers a research and education environment where critical and examining perspectives of the changeable possibilities, identities and functions of photography in a changing world constitute a central part. Research studies are carried out in a joint supervisory group together with the Valand School of Fine Arts and in the Faculty Research School.
This department aims at research that focuses on the communicative possibilities of photography. These include questions that treat visuality and representation, institution and reception, together with the rhetorical forms of photography
This year’s announcement is intended for applicants who are active artists and/or active critics, or curators with a theoretical angle connected to the central issues within contemporary photography, where the thesis work, besides having a part that consists of a text/texts, also has the character of a seminar series and/or a curator project or other artistic project. The School of Photography would like applications that show and discuss the role of photographical representation and the prerequisites needed in and for other artistic and cultural expressions in the present age. What critical and discursive function can photography as a communicative expression fulfil? Which reflective forms can it appear in?
