The Städelschule Architecture Class (SAC) in Frankfurt am Main proudly announces its newly re-launched website, in conjunction with a series of exhibitions and a planned extension of the program. Ongoing studies focus on topics related to high-rise buildings and surface research. On July 10th and 11th, the year’s work will be reviewed by a panel consisting of world-renown architects and theorists. The American architect, Greg Lynn, will deliver the Dean’s Honorary Lecture. In the framework of this event, the Günter Bock Prize will also be awarded to a First Year student for extraordinary achievements during the year.
The website, designed by the Frankfurt-based firm, Surface, presents the post-graduate Master program that is led by its dean, Ben van Berkel, and Johan Bettum. It offers stimulating news and glimpses onto the manifold and productive environment of the Architecture Class.
The Architecture Class offers one of the most advanced international post-graduate training programs in architectural design. The two-year program is based on research and experiments and leads to an accredited post-graduate Master of Arts degree.
Generally engaging with the topic of art and architecture, the Architecture Class draws on the buzz of the Städelschule, one of the most prominent art academies in Europe. The Architecture Class has just completed two exhibitions and will present new work in Vitra’s showroom in Frankfurt in August, 2008.
The practical, research-based work of the Architecture Class is supported by the strong faculty of the Städelschule, which includes among others Simon Starling, Tobias Rehberger and Wolfgang Tillmans. Theory seminars are currently offered by Beatriz Colomina, Mark Wigley and Sanford Kwinter.
Over the years, the Städelschule has hosted numerous events and lecture series with distinguished guests – among them, Olafur Eliasson, Petra Blaisse, Jeffrey Kipnis, Mohsen Mostafavi, Jesse Reiser, Aaron Betsky and Wolf Prix. During the summer semester, a lecture series on art and architecture includes a one-day conference on Le Corbusier and invited guests are Beatriz Colomina, Veronique Boone, Charles Jencks, Stanislaus von Moos and others.
Applications for the academic year, 2008-9, will be accepted until August 20th 2008.
