Temple Bar Gallery and Studios

Temple Bar Gallery and Studios (TBG&S) is one of Ireland’s leading contemporary art venues. Centrally located in Dublin’s cultural quarter, TBG&S is a publicly-funded, not-for-profit arts organisation. The organisation was set-up by artists in 1983 and is dedicated to the promotion, presentation and mediation of contemporary visual art and to the provision of affordable studio space to artists. The building, which is distinctive for its clean modernist lines, integrates a spacious gallery at ground floor, an impressive atrium space and thirty artists’ studios over three floors.

Of the thirty artists’ studios at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, one is reserved for international artists while the others are allocated to Dublin-based artists on a competitive basis. The International Studio Programme at TBG&S offers an opportunity for artists based outside of Ireland to live and work in Dublin for a period of three months. The programme aims to encourage international contacts for artists and to provide artists with opportunities for researching and developing their creative practice in a Dublin context.

The International Studio Programme is open to visual artists who work in all disciplines. The international studio is the largest in size (71m sq) and one of the best in the building. It is not a residential studio. Liaison staff at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios provides assistance in locating suitable accommodation in Dublin city. The cost of the studio is 250 Euros per month.

Temple Bar Gallery and Studios is also interested in developing its International Artist Exchange Programme with similar arts organisations. TBG&S has established a successful artistic exchange partnership with HIAP – Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme.

Facilities
All studio costs, such as heating, lighting, and water, are covered by Temple Bar Gallery and Studios and there is a common kitchen area for preparing lunch. Studios include basic furnishings (desk and chair). Guest artists also have access to limited administrative support and office equipment (photocopier, fax, computers for email and internet) available upon request during office hours. Wireless Internet access is provided for artists throughout the building.

No studio equipment is provided. However, Temple Bar Gallery and Studios can provide access to organisations in Dublin (darkrooms, video editing and print making facilities) that can provide the use of equipment for visiting artists.
