ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) offers 20 degree programs in the fine arts, architecture and design disciplines. RISD enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 50 states and 50 countries and also a division of Continuing Education offering a variety of programs to more than 4,000 part-time students. Included within the college is the RISD Museum of Art, housing a world-class collection of art.
In this position reporting to Director, External Relations, you will assist in the development and implementation of internal and external positioning efforts to articulate and advance RISD’s reputation. Strategize and assist in the management of a comprehensive media relations and advertising program to gain publicity and exposure for the College, Museum and Continuing Education programs and serve as the institution’s secondary media spokesperson.
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, with concentration in communications, PR, or journalism. 5-10 years in PR or journalism required with proven ability in managing a media relations program. Must have strong demonstration of media cultivation, strategy development and press placement ability. Supervisory skills required. Knowledge of art, design, art history, higher education, along with computer literacy preferred. Domestic travel required as is occasional evening and weekend work.
