DLECTRICITY is Detroit’s newest festival of art + light that showcases site-specific installations by established and emerging US and international artists. DLECTRICITY is pleased to announce that its call for entries is now open.

Up to 25 site-specific, outdoor projects for Midtown Detroit’s Woodward Corridor will be selected through this call. DLECTRICITY is looking for high-quality projects that will activate the outdoor, nighttime landscape of this district including:

–Outdoor light installations and interactive light projects
–3D video mapping projects and video art
–Multimedia installations
–Architectural lighting
–Light design objects
–Projects that use technology for interactivity and community engagement
–Works that utilize mobile platforms (smartphones, tablets)
–Performance (art, dance, theater, music)
–Talks and workshops
–Kid-friendly and/or educational projects
–The unexpected

Applicants will be judged on the innovative nature of their proposal and its suitability for DLECTRICITY. Accepted proposals will be funded up to 2,500 USD. Artists will also receive a 1,000 USD honorarium.

Entrance to the award is by open submission and winning proposals will be selected by a panel of Detroit-based curators and arts professionals. The closing date for applications is March 31, 2014. The selected projects will be announced in May 2014.

DLECTRICITY is a biennial Nuit Blanche festival that was launched in the fall of 2012 that transformed the iconic Midtown Detroit neighborhood into a spectacular nighttime environment of temporary public art. 75,000 people attended the first edition of this festival.

DLECTRICITY returns this fall and will commission ten projects by international, national and local artists, along with showcasing projects selected from the open call. Over two nights, a broad and diverse audience will be challenged to consider Midtown Detroit’s buildings and architecture in a new light. DLECTRICITY is scheduled for September 26–27, 2014.
