Matadero Madrid
Madrid, Spain
With more than five years of experience organizing art fairs that were specialized in specific formats of the arts, ArtFairs is ready to take a step forward in its strategy to promote the arts and its appropriate commercialization, giving all its experience and energy to create a unique and international Art Fair called SUMMA Art Fair (September 19th–22nd Madrid, Spain), born with a strong character and personality, seeking a global art reach.
Coinciding with the start of the galleries and museums season, and positioning itself at the beginning of the art fairs’ season, SUMMA promotes a new fair model that meets the demands of a new wave of emerging collectors, eager to know the new values of art and to contribute to the change in the relationships and practices of acquiring art pieces and dealing with galleries. We intend to introduce new international talents to an audience initiated in art from all over the world, with a fair that searches for both commercial and artistic success.
An international selection committee, made up of the Galeries Oliva Arauna (Spa), Filomena Soares (Port), Baudoin Lebon (Fra), Mot Charpentier (Fra), Espacio Mínimo (Spa), will be responsible for setting up a General Program through a rigorous selection of international galleries. The novelties are introduced through the section named Up, devoted to young emerging art galleries that produce the work of future values in the art world. A photography section, MADRIDFOTO, and another one dedicated to Design will complete the range of proposals for the fair.
Agustín Pérez Rubio, former director of MUSAC Museum, will curate a Transversal program, by invitation only. Pérez Rubio will present through each section of the fair a selection of works that avoid the classical format and that sense the future paths of contemporary art.
An international Collector’s Program will be formed to give the fair the dynamism and interest that it deserves, empathising with the figure of the new collector that is currently emerging in the art world, and that, together with the Activities Program—running parallel to the fair—will attract professionals from different nationalities, and contemporary art experts that will enrich the speech of art with their contributions.
There will also be a Gastronomic program and a series of Awards to point out what is outstanding in the fair. Actions and events outside the fair’s enclosure will incorporate other spaces in the city of Madrid involved with art creation.
SUMMA will be located at the Madrid landmark Matadero Madrid. Fleeing the fairgrounds, the structure and disposition of the exhibiting warehouses, designed by young Spanish architects, represent a unique location that nourishes the exhibition space with natural light, connected by a courtyard that articulates and communicates the spaces, favouring networking and exchange among its visitors. The renowned architect Andrés Jaque, whose architectural performance, Ikea disobedients, was recently acquired by MoMA, will be the designer of the structure fair.
SUMMA promotes the needed synergies to produce a fair with the effervescence, dynamism and possibilities that our time calls for.
SUMMA is an art fair that adapts its participation price to the current market situation. You can find all the details and the application form (open until 10 June, 2013) at www.summafair.com.
