La Conservera is introducing its Web in order to publicise its contents and reach out to new audiences.
With this new support, we wish to give potential visitors access to available info on our exhibitions and activities. Furthermore, it will set in place a feedback between users and the art centre which will help improve services while tightening bonds between the public and La Conservera Contemporary Art Centre.
Since May 17th, the Region of Murcia has a new space for contemporary art: La Conservera. Located in the town of Ceutí, La Conservera has a mandate to become a truly international art centre.
La Conservera, whose name is borrowed from the building’s former use as a canning factory, was entirely refurbished by the architect Fernando de Retes who came up with an exciting, agile and flexible design with four huge exhibition halls. All four galleries are completely different, with a character of their own, together covering an exhibition area of 4800 m².
The second cycle of exhibitions at the new centre opened to the public on September 13th and runs until November 22nd with shows by the artists Rosalía Banet, Annika von Hausswolff, Marilyn Minter and Mickalene Thomas. These four artists use women’s bodies as their support, focused on feminine identity, sensuality, ambiguity, theatricality and a feedback between photography and painting and also between photography and sculpture.
Each cycle of parallel exhibitions will generally consist of four artists who share common concerns, in such a way that a fluid, logical route is forged between them. This enables an analysis of a shared pool of concepts from various viewpoints. Likewise, there is no specific focus on any one support or discipline, whether painting, sculpture, photography or any other. Rather, on the contrary, there will be an ongoing questioning of all disciplines.
