http://www.remapkm.org

On September 2nd, ReMap 2 is once again opening in Kerameikos and Metaxourgeio, Athens, parallel to the 2nd Athens Biennale until October 4th, 2009.

Following a strong presence in June and July, ReMap 2 returns enriched with new projects and participations complementing the 30 odd exhibitions and open-air works by galleries, independent curators, art groups, architects and area residents that first opened up in June 16 2009. ReMap 2 is an international platform of contemporary art which highlights the coexistence of Greek and foreign artists, visitors and permanent residents, diverse artistic views and enables a constructive dialogue within the constantly evolving urban landscape of Kerameikos and Metaxourgeio, in the Athens city center.

ReMap 2 opens up KM into new interpretations of the complex reality found in the area by inviting participants and visitors into the streets and inside the various vacant plots and buildings where all the exhibitions and events take place.

Remap 2 spreads throughout the KM area with a variety of projects, such as the “Open Air Screening Room” which takes place in an empty plot on Iassonos street with a daily schedule of video art projections selected by the Athens Biennale, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) and curator Marina Fokidis. The programme in September starts with the project “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, by Marina Fokidis, a title borrowed from the known Shakespeare play, continues with a week curated by the 2nd Athens Biennale HEAVEN (09.09-13.09). Then, the National Museum of Contemporary Art will present selections of its collection under the title “Perfomance (1964-1976)” (18.09-20.09) and the programme will conclude with ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ (23.09-04.10).

Within the framework of the “Documentation Project”, the artist and KM resident Katerina Kana documents Remap 2 photographically, constantly updating the Remap blog while Remap KM the organizers will publish a documentation of Remap 2.

ReMap responds to the unique urban energy, cultural particularities and dynamic artistry of the ΚΜ neighborhood. It is organized by the non-profit cultural organization ReMapKM with the aim to introduce KM as an international hub for contemporary art. ReMapKM is sensitive to the complex realities of the KM area, looking at them as a means of artistic and architectural creativity that potentially enhances the quality of life in city centers, reinforces the city centers’ residential character and supports social interaction.
