SVA Art Practice is pleased to announce our 2019 artist-in-residence, Eleanor Kipping. Kipping is an interdisciplinary artist and activist whose work explores the intersections of the Black female experience within American history with installation, performance, and social practice. As the artist-in-residence, Kipping will work beside students within the Art Practice program at the School of Visual Arts, teaching and developing a project with first-year MFA candidates in the program this summer.
Program
The MFA Art Practice program at the School of Visual Arts offers a low-residency, interdisciplinary approach to an MFA degree. We identify process as a kind of critical thinking. Artists in the program engage in research-based practices, and are encouraged to converse and collaborate across subject matters using a combination of traditional and non-traditional media, technologies and techniques. The program aims to create a global community of artists and cultural producers who look beyond a consensus driven approach to how we define what’s important in contemporary art.
