The School of Design at Pratt Institute seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Chairperson of the Graduate Communications Design department and build upon the strengths of the existing programs. Housed together with the Undergraduate Communications Design department in the School of Design, the department is a recognized leader in the field and currently offers an MFA in Communications Design and an MS in Package Design.
The Chairperson is responsible for the overall management and future direction of the department’s academic programs, in accordance with Pratt’s mission and in support of the institution’s strategic plan. The successful candidate will assume academic and administrative leadership of the department and will develop programs to complement, enhance and build upon it’s prestige and reputation. Reporting to the Dean, the Chairperson will oversee approximately 60 faculty, an Assistant Chair, and an Assistant to the Chair. Strong administrative and teaching experience, outstanding organizational and communication skills, and an equitable leadership style are required.

Qualifications
Candidates should have at least 3–5 years of administrative and teaching experience in higher education and professional or creative practice in Communications Design or a related field. A terminal degree in Communications Design or a related field from an accredited institution, domestic or international, is also required. Demonstrated administrative and interpersonal skills, a level of intercultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations, as well as an understanding of the educational benefits of diversity are essential.
