30 years after its foundation, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design enters the next phase of its continuous transformation process. In the course of 2020, the university will hire up to 11 new professors. We expect applicants to join us as part of a collective process of continued development at the University. In the first phase we are looking to fill four positions in the fields of design, art and theory.

The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design wants to further develop its tradition as a place where art, critical theory and design come together. We are looking for four individuals with a well-defined positioning and a strong critical, relational or speculative attitude who can contribute to the international discourse on art, design and/or critical theory.

The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design offers five courses of study awarding seven degrees in the field of Design (“Communication Design”; “Product Design”; “Exhibition Design and Scenography”) and in the fields of Art & Theory (“Media Art”; “Art Research and Media Philosophy”).

The following professor positions (full-time, W3 pay grade, permanent) are to be filled as soon as possible, preferably starting in winter semester 2020/2021:

2. Professor of Design (3D) in the fields of Exhibition Design and Research

With various competences in the fields of public space intervention, critical architecture, installation, curating, prototyping and staging; additionally, with experience in coding, data visualisation, moving image, editorial, networked media or artistic appropriation of media technologies.

4. Professor of Critical Theory (-1D) in the fields of Critical Theory and Media Philosophy

With various competences in the fields of literature, social anthropology, psychology, sociology and (political) economy; additionally, with experience in performance, staging, exhibition strategies, time-based media, curating or artistic appropriation of media technologies.

The recipients of these positions are to comprehensively represent their respective fields in a multidisciplinary university in research, art and teaching across all courses of study.
