The Engadin Art Talks / E.A.T., a symposium on art and architecture, will take place for the third year in a row on the weekend of 25 and 26 August 2012. It is our great pleasure to be guests at the Lyceum Alpinum in Zuoz, Switzerland this year. For this August, we have invited artists, designers, and architects like Tobias Rehberger, Mai-Thu Perret, Ron Arad, François Roche, and Paulo Sergio Niemeyer to speak on the topic of “Visions for the Alps.” The event is aimed at connoisseurs, lovers, and followers of art and architecture. The lectures are held in German or English. Admission is free of charge.

The term “vision” is used to describe ideas, designs and projects that are usually daring, if not outright Utopian in nature. A “visionary”—as derived from the French word visionnaire—is an intellectual pioneer, who develops courageous, daring, and sometimes also uncomfortable ideas and presents them for discussion.

Hence the E.A.T. participants will discuss and philosophise about visions, ideas, designs, and projects that have been either created for the mountains or dreamed up in the mountains.

The panels will be chaired by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-Director Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects at the Serpentine Gallery in London, Beatrix Ruf, Director of the Kunsthalle Zürich, and Professor Philip Ursprung, ETH Zurich.

A film programme on the topic “Mountain Films,” which has been compiled by This Brunner, will be presented in the evenings at the cinema in Hotel Castell.

Participants 2012: Vito Acconci, Ron Arad, Hans Danuser, Frédéric Christophe Girot, Jefferson Hack, Oscar und Paulo Sergio Niemeyer, Mai-Thu Perret, Porta Alpina / Arthur Loretz, Raqs Media Collective, Tobias Rehberger, François Roche, Rolf Sachs, Urban-Think Tank / Alfredo Brillembourg & Hubert Klumpner

The Engadin Art Talks were initiated in 2010 by Zurich publisher and collector Cristina Bechtler. Her aim is to create a temporary venue for a dialogue on the arts and hence perpetuate the history of the Engadin as a location for focussed thinking and conversation. As artistic director, Cristina Bechtler succeeded in winning the support of renowned curators Hans Ulrich Obrist and Beatrix Ruf.

The Engadin Art Talks can already look back on an illustrious circle of participants: Doug Aitken, Nina von Albertini, Nairy Baghramian, Jan von Brevern, Andrea Deplazes, Simone Forti, Hamish Fulton, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Nikolaus Hirsch, Bijoy Jain, Josiah Mcelheny, Sarah Morris, Gianni Pettena, Walid Raad, Philippe Rahm, Camilo Restrepo, Hans-Jörg Ruch, Ritu Sarin & Tenzing Sonam, Kai Schlenther, Philip Ursprung, Lawrence Weiner, Cerith Wyn Evans, Annalisa & Peter Zumthor
