This fall, the Photography Lecture Series of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design goes fully virtual. The department of Photography and the MassArt Graduate Programs are thrilled to welcome nine visiting artists to this celebrated lecture series, which is an integral part of the MassArt Photography curriculum. All fall 2020 lectures, hosted on Zoom, are free and open to the public.

MassArt’s Photography Lecture Series brings several speakers—artists, historians, editors, and curators from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations—to the college every semester. These are leading practitioners in the medium who inspire fresh conversations and new ideas amongst those in our department and in the broader public.
MasssArt Photography students learn an array of analogue and digital techniques in order to make images that reflect their unique perspectives and distinctive stories. Rooted in a spirit of experimentation and thoughtful engagement with the history and traditions of the medium, the curriculum enables students to become accomplished and innovative image makers. Through critique, collaboration, and critical thinking, students from all our programs strive together with accomplished faculty to explore the fascinating and flexible visual language of photography.
Core faculty includes Laura McPhee (Graduate Program Coordinator & Photo Department Chair), Barbara Bosworth, Matthew Connors, Matthew Monteith, Billie Mandle, Amani Willett, and Joanne Lukitsh (History of Art Department). Additional faculty includes Pamela Pecchio and Stephen Tourlentes.
In addition to its undergraduate BFA program, MassArt offers two graduate-level programs in Photography: a Master of Fine Arts and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate.
MassArt’s 60-credit, two-year full-time MFA in Photography teaches the medium as a means of expression. Personal vision, experimentation within and without the boundaries of the still image, technical excellence, the history of photography, bookmaking, and contemporary criticism are emphasized.
The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate is a full-time one-year program for photographers seeking an advanced level of discourse and new or improved technical skills. The program helps students develop their personal visions while producing cohesive portfolios in preparation for graduate school or as an end in itself.
