With twice as much exhibition space, a new programme, under new leadership and with a new name the Kunstpalais reopens with the exhibition premiere GLÜCK happens

With GLÜCK happens… the public will be introduced to the Kunstpalais. This is the first show to take place in the newly renovated Palais Stutterheim after a two year break due to rebuilding.

Happiness is one of the most complex issues of our times. It seems to be both fleeting and omnipresent. Everybody is searching for it, often desperately. However, there are countless roads to happiness whose number increase every day. We know that anyone can achieve happiness. This is one of the great guarantees of modern times – a promise to everybody which is becoming increasingly complicated with its growing popularity. The more democratic happiness becomes the more complex and difficult it is to actually be happy. In fact, people’s unhappiness seems to be increasing with the growing number of paths leading to happiness.

Apart from allegorical depictions, Christian paradise motifs or secular renditions of couples and kisses, it soon becomes evident that happiness is not a typical subject in art. However, at the same time it constantly appears everywhere in all sorts of contexts thus leading to interesting and complex artistic results.

As many as 10 of the 15 participating artists created new works. With each new exhibit the show’s concept changed and expanded, and was enriched by new facets regarding the perception of happiness. The result is a probing exhibition with unusual approaches and surprising perspectives. GLÜCK happens… in music, at home, in beauty, in passion, in illusions or in our wishes – however, it differs with every manifestation.

The exhibition´s composition leads from easy answers to hard questions. The visitor is challenged to take an individual stand.
