This year’s KunstFilmBiennale offers an enticing range of events, including screenings of new works by Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Sarah Morris, Doug Aitken, Omer Fast, Hans Op de Beeck and many others, numerous premieres and a competition that now also features outstanding cinema films. Among the German cinema premieres are “WOMEN WITHOUT MEN” by Shirin Neshat, “LEBANON” by Samuel Maoz, “HADEWIJCH” by Bruno Dumont and “WOLFY” by Vasilij Sigarev. There are also retrospectives of the artists Pipilotti Rist and Christian Jankowski, a homage to the Hollywood camerman Ed Lachman and highlights from the media-art collection of the Düsseldorf collector Julia Stoschek. Altogether around 150 films will be shown in cinemas and art museums in Cologne and Bonn. Museum Ludwig in Cologne will be showing an exhibition featuring jury member Harun Farocki, and the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland will present a special programme of the Paris Centre Pompidou. For the first time, numerous Cologne galleries will also take part, presenting special exhibitions of artists who engage with the moving image in their work.
