With the 2021 Creative Exchange, one of the key European events for networking and presenting architectural ideas, Future Architecture Platform has introduced a new season of its architecture program: Landscapes of Care. We invite you to participate in a series of over 20 of the most significant and interconnected architectural happenings and events in Europe.
The opening of this new program season follows the annual Call for Ideas, which aimed to register ideas and emerging creatives that will help shape the groundbreaking architectural happenings and events in 2021 that form the core of the European Architecture Program. This year, Future Architecture Platform received over 457 creative projects proposed by more than 900 applicants from 63 countries in fields as diverse as the environment, sociology, construction, infrastructure, the economy, urban planning, heritage, and other areas.
In her essay “Are Words Good Enough,” Amica Dall, an anthropologist and theoretician, and one of the founding members of the multidisciplinary London collective Assemble, draws on this year’s submissions to the Future Architecture Call for Ideas to provide an insightful contribution that considers the role of an architect, manifested via applications by young creatives, from a critical perspective: “Architecture as a discipline is struggling for a new language—a language which protects us from the grandiosity and hubris of the past, but which retains the capacity to be ambitious, specific, and hopeful. We need ways of talking about power, collectivity, and agency which are capable of making them more accurate descriptions of the present, of actually existing people, of diagnosing what prevents the change we seek, of sharing more nuanced proposals for action.”
With their ambitious ideas, the Future Architecture emerging talents show great potential because young architects want to do more than create—they would like to open up space for a wider dialogue, inspire interaction, and create opportunities for collective reflection. “We are circling around the idea of responsibility, our role, and what a relational practice of architecture might actually mean. We can’t hide in the passive voice, hoping that others will take action if we move them emotionally. We have to be there too.”
Future Architecture Platform is happy to leverage our program as a pan-European architecture platform to create and provide opportunities to develop the ideas of dialogue and critical thought for talented conceptual thinkers and practitioners in architecture. This year’s events fall under the umbrella title “Landscapes of Care,” and are already taking place, thus allowing you to meet and follow the development of the most current ideas by emerging creatives and their contributions to the architecture of the future.
