inSite/ Art Practices in the Public Domain San Diego-Tijuana is pleased to announce the publication of [Situational] Public, the second in a series of books documenting inSite_05.
inSite_05s interdisciplinary platform incorporated four core components Interventions, Scenarios, Conversations and Museum Exhibition. inSite_05 unfolded between 2003 and 2005 in San Diego-Tijuana. It had a concentrated phase of public presentation from August 26, 2005 though November 13, 2005.

[Situational] Public is a critical revision of inSite_05, focused on two interrelated components, Interventions and Scenarios. Through the documentation and analysis of 32 projects commissioned for inSite_05, the book examines all aspects of each artists work from residencies and research to production and presentation. Texts and images about each project, together with a series of essays, center on themes including: public domain, the urban grid as an arena for the creation of new political configurations, dematerialized artistic strategies, the artist as facilitator of experiences, new fables in the public imaginary, and the border as a generator of complex dynamics.
[Situational] Public is accompanied by two additional publications: Farsites, which documents the inSite_05 Museum Exhibition; and A Dynamic Equilibrium: Liminal Spaces/Coursing Flows, a compilation of essays from inSite_05s Conversations series. Farsites was published in August 2005. Dynamic Equilibrium will be completed in March 2007.
[Situational] Public documents projects by the following artists: Interventions: Allora & Calzadilla, Barbosa & Ricalde, Mark Bradford, Bulbo, Teddy Cruz, Christopher Ferreria, Thomas Glassford, Maurycy Gomulicki, Gonzalo Lebrija, João Louro, Rubens Mano, Josep maria Martín, Itzel Martínez, Aernout Mik, Antoni Muntadas, Jose Parral, R_Tj-SD Workshop, Paul Ramírez Jonas, SIMPARCH, Javier Téllez, Althea Thauberger, Judi Werthein, and Måns Wrange; Scenarios: Coco Fusco & Ricardo Domínguez, Hans Fejellestad, Damon Holzborn, Fran Illich, Liisa Lounila, Ángel Nevarez & Alex Rivera, Magaly Ponce, Iván Díaz Robledo, Anne-Marie Schleiner & Luis Hernández, and Ricardo Miranda Zúñiga.

Commissioned content includes contributions by Donna Conwell, Joshua Decter, Gustavo Lipkau, Fiamma Montezemolo, Francesco Pellizzi, Tania Ragasol, Osvaldo Sánchez, and Sally Stein. Additional commentaries and statements by Marisa Flórido Cesar, Hans Fjellestad, Kellie Jones, Mary-Kay Lombino, Ute Meta Bauer, and Mark Tribe.
inSite is a network of contemporary art programs and commissioned projects that map the dynamics of permeability and blockage that characterize the liminal border zone of San Diego-Tijuana. Since its inception in 1992, inSite has focused on stimulating artistic practices that have explored and challenged our understanding of the terms public, urban, and border.
