SPECIAL: NAKED
What is Bare Life? And why is it such a popular subject in art? METROPOLIS M focuses on one of the three principle questions raised by Roger M. Buergel for the upcoming Documenta 12.

ERIK VAN LIESHOUT, BANKS VIOLETTE, KEREN CYTTER
A look at a few examples of bare life produces a wide range of meanings, from social criticism to a search for the essence of life, to a picture of socio-psychological angst. With contributions by Domeniek Ruyters, Jennifer Allen and Paul Groot, an interview with Erik van Lieshout, a portrait of Banks Violette, and a text by Israeli artist Keren Cytter.

AND FURTHER: ENRICO DAVID, BARBARA VISSER; CONTEMPORARY CAIRO
Alexis Vaillant interviews London-based artist Enrico David, and Moritz Küng speaks with Barbara Visser, whose major retrospective opens this fall in De Paviljoens in Almere. Marianne Brouwer visits Cairo and describes the major role of women in modern art in Egypt.

INDIA IN FRANKFURT, SINGAPORE ON SINGAPORE, E-CULTURE IN AMSTERDAM
Curator Nina Möntmann speaks about Impossible India in the Frankfurter Kunstverein. Further: an interview with Gijs Frieling, the new director of Artists Space W139 in Amsterdam, an article by Eugene Tan on art in Singapore and an evaluation of e-culture in the Netherlands.

METROPOLIS M, bimonthly magazine on contemporary art and design, is a headstrong but tolerant commentator on new developments in art and design.
