HISK organizes the post-graduate educational programme in the field of the visual plastic arts. HISK is an independent institution and is directed towards students who graduated at one of the eight Flemish Departments that provide a higher education in the field of art, as well as to young artists in general, both from Belgium and from abroad.

HISK offers individual studios to some thirty five young visual artists, thus enabling them to develop their own individual oeuvre and style, independently of fixed curricula or programmes, yet within a professional climate, stimulated, guided and supported by experts.
Function – and profile description artistic director

Diploma prerequisites
The artistic director should have an academic diploma or a diploma higher education and at least 5 years relevant experience in the world of art.
Knowledge
– To be familiar with contemporary visual art and art world and to have a real international horizon.
– To have a broad cultural and intellectual interest to develop and offer this to the candidate-laureates.
Profile and acquired skills
Is able to:
– Organize
– Communicate
– Enthuse
– Develop concepts
– Coach artistic development
– Work in team, especially in close collaboration with the business director with regard to sound/well balanced expenses in the frame of the vision and objectives.
– Develop systematically structured networks for the positioning of the HISK within the international art world.
Tasks
– To compose the programme of the visiting lectures (visual artists, illustrators, designers, theorists, art critics…) in an inspiring manner, to implement it practically (select, invite, introduce, organize debates and look after the end report) within the framework of the policy of the HISK and to promote it beyond.
– To accompany and support the candidate-laureates individually in their artistic process.
– To position the HISK within international networks of the world of arts and art education.
Insights into
– Recent evolution within the higher education with regard to visual arts in Flanders.
– The cultural policy (with regard to visual arts) in the Flemish and European community.
Technical competences
– Knowledge of Dutch, English and French is an advantage. The communication language in the HISK is English.
– Knowledge of the usual data processing applications and be familiar with the modern electronic communication forms.
Period/appointment
Part-time to full-time job, depending on profile and possibilities. Commencement of employment at the earliest on 17.10.2005. Converging with management agreement up to 2010, with probation of 1 year.
