New Art Fair Offers Comprehensive Selection of Modern and Contemporary Art, Plus Antiques and Decorative Objects
Chicago Contemporary & Classic (CC&C), the new art fair showcasing modern and contemporary art from many of the world’s most respected galleries, will make its debut at Navy Pier Friday, April 29 – Monday, May 2, 2005. Originally scheduled for May 6 – 9, the exposition’s dates were moved forward one week to avoid the New York auctions and better accommodate the schedules of many galleries and collectors. CC&C is a new concept in the world of contemporary art fairs, providing the public with an historical appreciation of collecting within the context of contemporary culture.

“Hosting our fair the week prior will significantly increase our ability to better serve both the galleries and the collectors,” said Ilana Vardy, the show’s director. “We are very pleased that the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority was able to make this important change in the schedule.” Navy Pier’s MPEA has guaranteed these new dates to Chicago Contemporary & Classic in Festival Hall for the next seven years.

A wide array of international galleries has already signed on to participate in CC&C.

“We are very excited by the response we have been getting,” continued Vardy. “We’re confident that Chicago Contemporary & Classic will provide a genuinely exciting and eclectic array of contemporary and modern art, plus a selection of some of the finest textiles, modern furniture and objects, and antiques, and other categories. This fair will truly have something for everyone interested in art and in learning about a wider range of categories than are typically offered at art fairs.” A complete list of galleries will be released soon.

Many of the world’s leading exhibitors will fill Navy Pier’s Festival Hall for CC&C. An educational component to the fair will feature experts in a variety of fields hosting panel discussions open to the public. A series of talks will enhance the overall appreciation of the works on view and will provide a variety of informed opinions regarding collecting in many media.

The Chicago office for CC&C is located at 11 East Adams Street, with veteran art fair organizers Thomas Hart and Joelle Rabion managing the operation. Vardy, who also directs Art Miami, oversees both teams working in tandem to produce this major event.

The International Art Group is a division of Pfingsten Publishing, L.L.C., which is owned by private equity firm Pfingsten Partners, located in Deerfield, Illinois. Pfingsten Publishing, the world’s largest producer of art shows and art-related publications, produces eight art shows, including Art Miami – every year in January at the Miami Beach Convention Center – and five publications, including Art Business News.

Chicago Contemporary & Classic will be presented in Chicago at Navy Pier, 600 East Grand Avenue, Friday, April 29 – Monday, May 2. For more information, please call 312- 447-0430 or visit www.thepiershow.com
