ICA London seeks a new Director
Recently described as ‘the greatest ideas laboratory in London’, the ICA is a new kind of cultural institution, the hub of a global network, and an exciting venue for the visual arts, film, theatre, music, and the new digital media. It is also the focus for lively discussion across the whole range of contemporary culture, and its intersection with politics and science. Complementing this public programme, it provides innovative education and research, stretching from digital training for the socially excluded to a collaborative PhD. It has a film distribution company, has founded a club to support creative businesses, and has a scientist in residence.
The post of Director will become vacant shortly on the departure of Philip Dodd after seven years of exceptional development and achievement. The Council is keen to attract applicants from as wide and diverse a constituency as possible – people with an established track record in the contemporary arts world who can offer passion, vision and a commitment to excellence and cultural diversity.
Principal responsibilities of the Director:
-to develop the role of the ICA in order to continue to give it a distinctive place in the culture of the UK
-to broker relationships with local and global partners and ensure that the ICA secures funds to enable it to continue to expand its work
-to provide leadership and manage the operations of a diverse organisation and range of staff within a defined financial framework
-to be a lively advocate for the ICA and contemporary culture in general
Candidates will:
-be capable of demonstrating previous achievements
-have an independent standing in a relevant sector
-have proven experience of leadership at a senior level
-possess broad knowledge across the whole of the cultural domain
-be an excellent communicator
Salary will be commensurate with the standing of the post. .
