The Akiyoshidai International Art Village pleased to announce an exhibition ¡°BOOGIE-WOOGIE WONDERLAND¡±. The Exhibition has been realized based on the curatorial work made by *CANDY FACTORY, Japanese artist unit, and producing by Akiyoshidai International Art Village. 8 participating artists either have stayed in AIAV as a resident artist or made some collaborations with *CANDY FACTORY. Consequently, the BOOGIE-WOOGIE WONDERLAND is a fruitful result of the continuous collaborations between them. This Exhibition will be developed in different forms such as WEB project and the book project.

CONCEPT NOTE:

Gulliver’s Kingdom is a theme park that failed. It opened in 1997 but was shut down in October 2001, after Niigata Chuo Bank (which had backed the project) collapsed under the weight of non-performing loans. Now the theme park has been auctioned off to a resort company, but there are still no concrete plans. The theme park is located in Kamikuishiki village Yamanashi Prefecture situated at the foot of Mount Fuji Aokigahara area- the nation’s most popular suicide spot. The village also gained notoriety in the mid-1990s as the cult terrorist group Aum’s main base, where they produced the poisoned chemical Sarin. The village will soon disappear due to the prefectural government rezoning the area so that it can be combined with other administrative municipalities.
