Art 32 Basel

No limits for the art of today: «Art Unlimited»

«Art Unlimited» at Art 32 Basel offers artists and gallerists a platform to present works that go beyond the limitations of art fair exhibition stands, and often even those of galleries, museums and other traditional forms of presentation. Following last years premiere,  «Art Unlimited» will again form a spectacular part of Art 32 Basel. Sixty extraordinary art projects unlike anything presented at other art fairs or auctions will be on view this June.

Some of works to be featured are:
The Atelier van Lieshout (Galerie Fons Welters) will set up two buildings made of light-coloured polyester and unfinished wood, a two-storey compost toilet and a hut that could serve both as a fishermans hut and as a hermits hut. As always, works by the Atelier van Lieshout are completely functional and relate  in a tongue-in-cheek manner to actually existing architecture. Ilya Kabakovs work «Two windows» (Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac) turns the observer into a voyeur as s/he peers through two windows into a room with two tables that have paintings of crockery and silver cutlery as table tops. The Arte Povera movement is represented at the exhibition by an important work «The gardeners house» (La Casa del Giardiniere) an igloo by Mario Merz (Sperone Westwater Gallery), while «Tee-Pee and Indian» from the year 1996 is an impressive example of the mechanical world of art of Paul McCarthy (Luhring Augustine). At Art Unlimited, Jenny Holzer will present one of her well-known LED towers with highly meaningful sentences that was created between 1993 and 1998. Video contributions form a particular point of focus at «Art Unlimited», including works by: Pipilotti Rist (Galerie Hauser & Wirth), Vanessa Beecroft (Gagosian Gallery) and Uri Tzaig (Galerie Erna Hécey), Brice Dellsperger (Air de Paris), Ann-Sofi Sidén (Galerie Nordenhake) and many others.
