In support of the opening of the newly-renovated 75,000 square foot Barnes Ogden Art & Design Complex studio buildings LSU has 15 new graduate assistantships to award for MFA students in all studio art areas including digital art and photography. Funded at 23,000 USD per academic year (and with a full tuition waiver) these 20-hour assistantships represent the highest stipends available in the Southern region and are at a level that is competitive with some of the most prominent public flagship universities in the nation.

Apply today for the MFA. Deadline for second call applications to the LSU School of Art is April 15.

The MFA in Studio Arts affords our students the opportunity to individualize their studio practice, empowering them to pursue their vision beside an international faculty of professional working artists, designers, and scholars. Along with access to cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment, the LSU School of Art offers stipends and tuition waivers for our graduate assistants; individual studios and large communal workspaces; opportunities to study abroad in Ireland, Italy, the UK, China, and beyond; and an abundance of opportunities to exhibit work at one of our galleries and at the many artistic venues across the region. LSU School of Art offers areas of focus, such as printmaking/bookmaking, sculpture, painting/drawing, photography, ceramics, digital art, and graphic design.

Louisiana
Known for the unrivaled friendliness of the people, uniquely delicious food, and its distinctly original creative culture, Louisiana has something for everyone—especially artists, designers, and scholars.

City
The high ground above the Mississippi River is an environment where landscape, climate, history, and culture allow for a lifestyle that is uniquely suited to the artistic temperament. Here, students develop their talents and refine their vision in a semi-tropical setting that provides fertile ground and unlimited material for an active imagination. Baton Rouge represents the best of Louisiana’s vibrant culture and is a fantastic jumping-off place for exploring the rest of the region.

Climate
The Baton Rouge area has a semi-tropical climate that sets the scene for year-round cultural festivals and activities with mild and short winters, fabulous falls, and glorious springs. The physical setting of southern Louisiana and the lower Mississippi delta region provides an invaluable resource for creative minds.

Culture
Louisiana has arguably the most colorful history and fascinating culture of any state in the nation. In what other state could you visit the battleground where a ragtag group of soldiers repelled a British invasion with the help of a notorious outlaw pirate? Visitors can learn about many of the most interesting parts of general American history right here in Louisiana. From the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the numerous Audubon nature museums and the National World War II Museum in New Orleans to the Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport, and the countless other museums, art galleries, and cultural and historical sites statewide, there is a lifetime of learning to do in Louisiana.
