IED Firenze just launched two summer courses enriching its arts academic offer the course in Museum Experience and the one in Arts Management.

Museum Experience is a perfect mix of on site experiences and specific lectures to explore and understand museums audience development strategies. It is designed to be an introduction to the museum studies and a reflection on audience development strategies. Students will learn how to relate with cultural heritage through theoretic analysis and visits. An important part is the on site experiences of different typologies of museums and their approaches on display of collections and temporary exhibition and how these are mediated to the public in various real and virtual activities. These visits to the museums in Florence, will be shared with the students of the Arts Management course, to deepen the museums functioning and to sharpen the exchange on project proposals.

Arts Management is meant to be a stimulating and intriguing introduction to the themes of art management through a glimpse into art debates, elements of project management, analysis and visits to different institutions and their management different approaches and a final practical workshop. It is designed to bring the student in direct contact with different models of institutional and more experimental culture and art management through on site visits and to understand the different skills needed to plan a project from writing to budgeting. The visits are planned in common with the course of Museum Experience to give the opportunity to students to exchange ideas on the future programming of activities and to foster a better understanding of all the different roles and competences in the art institutions. The visits might include museums such as Uffizi, Palazzo Pitti, Museo and Villa bardini, Museo Novecento, Palazzo Strozzi, Villa Roaman, The Recovery Plan, Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci.

“IED offers students from all over the world a unique opportunity: the combination of a dynamic, international study path built in line with the new trends of our time that intertwines with an approach based on learning by doing offered by the extraordinary Florentine art scene. This context of intensive studies allows both to better define which career fits better the students’ wishes and expectations, and, at the same time, to lay the foundations of a career in today’s art world. The further artistic stimulus traced by Florence and its numerous museums, institutions and galleries is obviously a plus that will make this experience even more special for everyone” declares Camilla Mozzato, Course Coordinator.
