The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) is one of the world’s leading art universities with a long tradition. It is an important partner in Berlin’s network of culture, art and science and artistic activities in Berlin. More than 200 professors, around 250 employees in art and sciences, and around 300 employees in administration, libraries, service and technology work at the UdK Berlin. More than 4,000 students (30 percent of them international) are enrolled in over 70 degree programmes at the four colleges of Fine Arts/Architecture, Media and Design/Music, and Performing Arts, as well as at the Central Institute for Continued Education (ZIW), the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) and the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB). The UdK Berlin offers teacher education programmes in the subjects of Fine Arts, Music and Theatre/Performing Arts. The UdK Berlin is one of the few art colleges in Germany with the right to confer doctorates and post-doctoral qualifications.
Through the diverse activities of its members, the institution contributes to a culture of exchange with Berlin’s civil society and the global audience that is both artistically and academically guided. The UdK Berlin, College of Architecture, Media and Design—Institute for History and Theory of Design—is seeking to appoint a:
University professor (f/m/d)
Salary group W 3 / Permanent full-time professorship / Field of teaching: Art and Cultural Studies, with a focus on space and architecture / Teaching obligation: nine course hours (LVS)
Start of service of the professorship: April 1, 2026

Duties the open position offers:
–Teaching and research in the subject area mentioned above
–Historical, aesthetic and social perspectives on topics relating to body discourses, technology and materiality; infrastructure, nature-culture relationships; globality and migration are desired
–Professional supervision of students on the Architecture degree programme
–Cooperation in the academic self-administration
Requirements:
–University degree in a subject appropriate to the field of teaching and research
–Above-average doctorate in cultural studies or art history, focussing on the above-mentioned areas
–Relevant post-doctoral qualification (habilitation) or equivalent achievements
–Teaching experience at universities
–(International) publication activity
–International academic experience plus experience in acquiring external funding is desirable
–appointment requirements in accordance with section 100 of Berlin Act on Higher Education (BerlHG)
