İstanbul Modern presents the first retrospective in Turkey by Kutluğ Ataman, a prominent figure in the contemporary art world. Realized under the sponsorship of Garanti Bank between November 10, 2010 – March 6, 2011, the exhibition The Enemy Inside Me brings together videos and installations by the artist.

The Enemy Inside Me is a mid-career exhibition celebrating, after a 13-year international career, the homecoming of the İstanbul-born artist, who has, to date, exhibited very few of his works in Turkey. Curated by Levent Çalıkoğlu, İstanbul Modern’s Chief Curator, and comprising works that are milestones in Kutluğ Ataman’s career in the international art scene, the show also includes a new work that has not yet been exhibited in Europe.

The Enemy Inside Me presents 11 major works by the artist: Women Who Wear Wigs (1999), Never My Soul (2001), It’s A Vicious Circle (2002), 99 Names (2002), The 4 Seasons of Veronica Read (2002), Stefan’s Room (2004), Testimony (2006), Paradise (2006), Turkish Delight (2007), and fff (2006-9). Besides these, a major new work will be exhibited for the first time in Europe: Beggars (2010), supported by Thomas Dane Gallery and the 29th São Paulo Biennial, 2010.
