The Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery), designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, is an icon of modern architecture. The permanent exhibition gathers together some of the major works of the 20th century, including pieces by Joseph Beuys, Francis Bacon, Rebecca Horn, Valie Export, Gerhard Richter and Bridget Riley. With its glazed façades, the upper hall is flooded with natural light, providing a spectacular space for special exhibitions.
