Public Art München is a programme of the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich. The city of Munich invests 1.5 percent of its building costs in art every year. Half of the budget goes to Quivid, the city’s art-in-architecture programme. The other half is used for temporary art in public spaces. The programme has been anchored in the Department of Arts and Culture since 2009. Through tenders and competitions, Public Art München realises annual thematic series (ANNUALE), art on the billboard at Lenbachplatz (BILLBOARD), temporary international individual projects (SOLO), international curated project series (FESTIVAL), as well as projects on culture of remembrances in urban space (MEMORY).
